One of the last living pioneers of the hot rod and custom movement as we know it today. After eight long years of illness, Spence passed away on October 14 at home with his family around him. 10.08.2020 - Charlie "Chop Top Charlie" Brewer has passed away On October 8, 2020, the custom car scene was saddened by the news that Chop Top Charlie had passed away. Charlie is a well-known Ohio-customizer. The restored version of the car will make its debut at the 2019 Detroit Autorama. 01.27.2019 - The Michael Gale Black Estate Sale Legendary East Coast customizer Richard "Korky" Korkes' 1954 Ford Parisienne custom is coming up for sale in the estate sale after Michael "Gale" Black in February. 12.02.2018 - Customs by the Sea is Coming Back to California Kustomrama has decided to host another Customs by the Sea car show in California. Held in cooperation with the Oilers car club, the show will take place in Santa Barbara in March of 2019. 11.13.2018 - The Gary Cerveny Collection Lost to Malibu Wildfires In November of 2018 the Norman Timbs Special, and 30 plus other cars, including Dave Cunningham's 1940 Ford, Lee Talbot and Sam Chakries' 1953 Studebaker Pick Up, and Ray Goulart's 1950 Oldsmobile were lost to the Malibu wildfires as Gary Cerveny's collection burned down to the ground. A tragic day in custom car history. 10.22.2018 - Glen Wall Has Passed Away We are sorry to inform that early customizer Glen Wall passed away today, 101 years old. Glen and his big brother Forey got into the custom car industry right after WWII. While Forey could turn a dollar, Glen could do anything with cars, and around 1944-1945 he went to work for Emil Dietrich as a lot boy. 10.12.2018 - The $98,000 goal for the Gene Winfield fundraiser has been met It took only two days for the GoFundMe fundraiser for Gene Winfield to reach its goal of $98,000 USD. The basic transportation needs were then met, and Gene and his crew were waiting on the doctor's evaluation to proceed further. 10.10.2018 - Gene Winfield injured and stranded in Finland In September of 2018, Gene attended the Yankee Car Show in Lahti, Finland where he was chopping the top on a car live at the show. During the show he suffered a bad fall, breaking his hip. After surgery, he came down with pneumonia. 08.26.2018 - The Jack Calori 1936 Ford Coupe Sold For $407,000 USD August 25, 2018 the Calori Coupe crossed the block at the 2018 Mecum Monterey auction. It was one of the main attractions at the auction, and it was estimated to sell for a price between $350,000 - $450,000. When the auction ended, the car was sold for $407,000 USD. 07.24.2018 - Paul Hatton Has Passed Away Earlier this Summer we received the sad news that legendary Detroit, Michigan pinstriper Paul Hatton passed away May 1, 2018, 84 years old. Paul was born in Richmond, Kentucky in 1933. The Jade Idol was Gene Winfield’s claim to fame, and it was the car put him on the map nationwide! Billy Belmont of Dedham, Massachusetts has been the caretaker of this custom since the 1980s. Now the car is on its way to Winfield's Custom Shop, where Gene will recreate the original fade paint job he laid in 1959. 07.26.2017 - Dave Stuckey Has Passed Away Monday, July 24, 2017 legendary Wichita, Kansas customizer Dave Stuckey passed away, 79 years old. Dave began restyling and hopping up cars at age 13. 16 years old he began working part time at Darryl Starbird's Star Kustom Shop, after school. While working for Starbird, Dave completed the first version of his famous Lil Coffin' show rod. 06.01.2017 - Bud Unger Has Passed Away We're sorry to inform that legendary East Coast customizer Herbert "Bud" Unger passed away today, 96 years old. Bud was born in Hancock, Maryland in 1921. He had 7 brothers and sisters, and his family were very poor when he was growing up. Bud's father was a master mechanic, and he taught Bud a lot about the care and respect for using tools.

Early April 2017 Yaril's Customs completed the restoration of Gil Ayala's 1955 Ford Thunderbird for Bjørn Inge Jansson of Oslo, Norway. April 3 Bjørn Inge flew in from Norway to drive the old custom across the country. First stop is the 16th annual Lonestar Round Up in Austin, Texas where the car will make its first public appearance.

04.01.2017 - Kurt McCormick and Manns Restoration Debuts the Restored Version of Sam Barris' 1950 Buick
April 1, 2017 the restored version of Sam Barris' 1950 Buick Sedanette was unveiled to the public at the Jefferson County Library Benefit Car Show in Barnhardt, Missouri. The restoration was completed a couple of days prior to the event. This is the second time the car has been restored since it was found in Port Jefferson Station, New York in 1969.

02.22.2017 - Oliver Hine's 1933 Ford 5-Window Coupe Offered For Sale at the Auctions America Fort Lauderdale Auction
April 1, 2017 Oliver Hine's 1933 Ford 5-window coupe will be offered for sale at the Auctions America Fort Lauderdale Auction. Restyled by Oliver Hine of Charlotte, Michigan, the car was raced in 1951 and 1952 before Oliver decided to build it into a show car. The build was completed early in 1955, and it was displayed the same year at the Rotunda Custom Car Show.

02.21.2017 - Gil Ayala's Wild Bird Europe Debut Scheduled for the 2017 Coupe Devils Rod & Kustom Bonanza
Last week the line-up for the 9th annual Coupe Devils Rod & Kustom Bonanza in Norway was announced on Facebook. In addition to a killer band line-up, this years Bonanza Show will also host the Europe debut of Gil Ayala's 1955 Ford Thunderbird. The car is currently being restored by Yaril's Custom in Hialeah, Florida, and as soon as it is done it will be driven across the country, before it will be shipped off to Norway

02.17.2017 - The Mulholland Speedster is Also the World's Most Beautiful Custom
History was made today when America's Most Beautiful Roadster 2017 also became the World's Most Beautiful Custom at the 67th annual Sacramento Autorama! The car did also take home the Sam Barris Memorial Award and the Custom D'Elegance Award at the show. Congratulation to Bruce Wanta, Troy Ladd and his crew at Hollywood Hot Rods.

01.30.2017 - The Mulholland Speedster is America's Most Beautiful Roadster
13 cars competed for the prestigious America's Most Beautiful Roadster Award at the 68th annual Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona this weekend. All contenders showed excellent craftsmanship, design and finish, but there was one build that really stood out from the crowd, a 1936 Packard inspired roadster, coach-built by Troy Ladd and his talented crew at Hollywood Hot Rods.

01.27.2017 - Galpin Auto Sports Debuts the Restored Version of Ed Roth's 1956 Ford F-100 Shop Truck
In 2016 the remains of Ed Roth's 1956 Ford F-100 truck was found in a barn in Oklahoma. Beau Boeckmann at Galpin Auto Sports bought the old Roth creation and had it shipped to California. Dave Shuten has led the restoration of the truck, and later today it will make it first public appearance at the 68th annual Grand National Roadster Show.

The 4th annual Customs by the Sea in Wildwood, New Jersey will be held June 10-11, 2017. This year there will be three classes at the show. One for Early Custom Cars, one for Historic and Special Invited Hot Rods and Customs, and one for Pre 1965 Traditional Hot Rods and Custom. The Pre 1965 Traditional Hot Rod and Custom Class is run as a joint-collaboration between Kustomrama and the Oilers car club. Read more...
01.06.2017 - The Restoration of Bo Thalinsson's 1953 Ford Sunliner Convertible Has Started
Bo Thalinsson's 1953 Ford Sunliner Convertible was originally restyled by Bo Thalinsson of Stockholm, Sweden in the 1960s. The build was completed in 1967. In 2015 Simon and Tomas Lindström bought the remains of the car and saved it from an intended original restoration. The father and son duo have started the restoration of the old custom, and we can't wait to see Bo's 1967 version back on the road again. Read more...

11.18.2016 - The Restoration of Henry Contreras' 1955 Chevrolet Custom Has Started
Earlier this year the remains of Henry Contreras' 1955 Chevrolet custom swapped hands, and Sam Freeman and Richard Mann at Freeman Automotive Design in Santa Barbara, California are now undertaking a restoration of the historic Norwalk custom. Henry's 55 gained national recognition when it was featured on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine January 1957. 09.03.2016 - Blackie Gejeian Passed Away
Michael "Blackie" Gejeian was born in Easton, California in 1926. 19 years old he built his first hot rod, named "Blackie". After a crash in 1948 he rebuilt it into the "Shish Kebob". Featuring a chromed undercarriage, the Shish Kebob and Blackie drove into the history books when he won the prestigious America's Most Beautiful Roadster award with the car. In June we all celebrated his 90 year birthday, and today we woke up to the sad news that Blackie has left us. Read more...

Earlier this year the remains of the once so glorious Krimson Kart was advertised for sale on eBay. The last decade, the car has been trough several hands, and when it appeared on eBay it was in need of a full restoration. A week ago we got an email from Cody Burghdorf of Marshall, Michigan. We are sad to report that legendary customizer Richard "Korky" Korkes passed away this weekend. Korky was born April 1, 1935. He began his customizing career in 1952, 17 years old. He went on to open up his own custom shop in Whippany and form the Free Wheelers car club before he was headhunted by George Barris and moved to California. Read more...
06.29.2016 - Tim Norman Recreates Madame Fi Fi
Tim Norman has been entertaining us all with his Madame Fi Fi recreation on Instagram lately, and we can't wait to see the old Seattle custom come to alive again! The original Madame Fi Fi was supposedly in a divorce dispute in the mid 1970s, and according to Dick Page, John Kincl spotted the car abandoned outside a Seattle gas station under a wet tarp. Yesterday John D'Agostino and Celebrity Kustoms latest build made its debut at the Rodeo Drive Concours in Beverly Hills. Named Rita, the two seater sportster was built as a tribute to Hollywood movie actress Rita Hayworth. It was designed by John and OZ Welch. Body and paint was performed by OZ Kustoms in Oroville, California, while the interior was upholstered by Bob Divine at Divine's Custom Interiors. Read more...
06.05.2016 - The Chalifoux Special Wins the First Bud Unger Preservation Award
This year we had the honor of handing out the very first Bud Unger Preservation Award at the Customs by the Sea show in Wildwood. The goal of the award is to hand it out to someone who is either preserving old custom traditions, or someone who is preserving an old custom car for future generations. 05.20.2016 - Bill Hines Passed Away
May 20, 2016 Bill Hines passed peacefully away at his home. We all know Bill as the Leadslinger. Bill was the real deal! He began customizing cars in Lincoln Park, Michigan in 1941, and he has been an inspiration for generations of aspiring customizers all over the world. 94 years old he was still busy building customs, doing what he loved. 11.11.2015 - Gene Winfield Debuts New Build at the SEMA Show
November 1, 2015 legendary customizer Gene Winfield's latest creation, a 1952 Chevrolet custom named "Desert Sunset", made its debut at the 2015 SEMA Show. 11.05.2015 - George Barris Passed Away
November 5, 2015 we lost a legend, as George Barris, the Kustom Car King passed away. 13 years old George started customizing cars with his brother Sam. He learned the trade by hanging out with legendary custom car builder Harry Westergard. In 1942 he moved to Los Angeles, where he went on to establish the world's most famous custom car shop; "Barris Kustoms." Click here for more information on George Barris
10.28.2015 - The Spohn Palos Being Restored
October 28, 2015 the 1952 Spohn Palos was sent to Manns Restorations in Festus, Missouri for a proper restoration. Current owner Wayne Graefen, first saw the old GM Lesabre inspired Spohn custom as a kid in Palos Park, Illinois in 1957. He spent over 4 decades trying to locate the car. In 2011 he was reunited with the old German custom, and he ended up buying it. Now 4 years later he has finally decided to restore it back to it's former glory. Click here for more information.
09.16.2015 - New Book: King of the Kustomizers: The Art of George Barris
After 5 years of hard work, Brett Barris and Douglas Nason's book "King of the Kustomizers: The Art of George Barris" is finally out. A huge release party and book signing was held at Gaslpin Auto Sports September 1, 2015. The hardcover book containing nearly 500 pages jam-packed with never-before-seen photos and design illustrations, illuminating how Barris’ creations helped redefine the automobile’s place in American culture. 08.27.2015 - Inside Hot Rodding: The Tex Smith Autobiography
LeRoi Tex Smith was a passionate builder and racer. He was also a great storyteller, and in addition to publishing several books on the subject, he spent much of his life working for magazines such as Hot Rod Magazine, Street Rodder and Rod Action. Unfortunately, Tex passed away June 11, 2015. Luckily for us, he was able to complete his autobiography before he left us. Published by Graffiti Publications, the 256 pages hardcover book was released August 1, 2015. Click here for more information.
08.04.2015 - Bo Huff Passed Away
After a 5 year battle of cancer, legendary Utah customizer Bo Huff passed away at his home in Dragerton on August 4, 2015. Bo was a driving force in the community and a familiar name and face all over the world. He first took an interest in cars in the 1950s, watching the older guys in town with their lowered cars. 08.08.2014 - Einar Valsjø Passed Away
August 5, 2014 was a sad day for Norwegian custom history, as Einar Valsjø passed away. Einar was a pioneer in the field, who completed his first build, a customized 1952 Mercury around 1963. Much of the work on the Mercury was done outside, during the winter. Once completed, the Mercury became one of the first custom cars of Norway. Einar went on to build an paint many cars, for himself and for other. He is best known for his Mako Shark show car, a customized Corvette that hit the show circuit of Norway in three different versions. Click here for more information on Einar Valsjø
07.25.2014 - Old Kool Magazine
Old Kool Magazine is a new Kustom Life Magazine from the dark woods of Finland. Published by Finish pinstriper Pekka Wizzzard Mannermaa, the magazine is written in both Finish and English. First issue was released in January of 2014. The second issue made it's debut at the 6th annual Coupe Devils Rod & Kustom Bonanza in July, and they are absolutely a great addition to the scene.

07.18.2014 - Mike Alexander Dies at 80
Custom car legend Mike Alexander, of the Alexander Brothers duo passed away July 18, 2014. Born in 1933, Mike was the fourth of four brothers. Mike was the mechanic one of the Alexander Bros duo, and had always tinkered with cars. Larry and Mike opened up their first shop in Detroit in 1957. They had their own style, and during the late 1950s and 1960s they were instrumental in developing new trends in the field of customizing.

The Kustomrama Torrance Division T-shirt is our tribute to old time Boulevard Cruiser, historian and Kustomrama contributor Howard Gribble. Thanks to Howard, important parts of the history of early lifted cars have found its way to Kustomrama. Howard was there when it happened, and he has dedicated much of his life to preserve and share what he saw! Featured on this shirt is Howard's own lifted 1967 Chevrolet Impala.

04.11.2014 - Original Von Dutch and Dean Jeffries Collaboration Art Piece Discovered
Back in March of 2014 Kustomrama contributor Olav Kvipt bought an old 1955 Ford F-100 truck that Dick Richardson's Custom Shop and Barris Kustoms restyled for San Bernardino Krankers member George Contaoi in the 1950s. Von Dutch and Dean Jeffries painted a wonderful weirdo painting on the tailgate of this in 1956. One year later George sealed it shut, and it has been hidden all these years until now... 09.11.2013 - Automodello's Timbs Streamliner
In 2010 we ran a featured story on the then newly restored Norman Timbs' Buick Special. Norman Timbs custom creation is these days coming alive as a hand built, resin cast 1:43 scale model by Automodello. It will be available in two versions, a standard Maroon version with a tan interior will be produced in up to 999 pieces, and a white Tribute Edition that will be produced in 148 pieces. 05.07.2013 - Dean Jeffries Dies at 80
May 5th, 2013 legendary custom painter, pinstriper and fabricator Dean Jeffries passed away at home. Dean began pinstriping cars with another legend, Von Dutch, in Lynwood, California in the early 1950s. He spent a lot of time around Von Dutch, and the pair became known as Von Dutch and "The Kid". Dean's talent evolved fast, and he went from pinstriping, to custom painting, to custom car fabrication.

Legendary chassis builder Kent Fuller is currently busy building his last car, a Streamliner capable of doing 300 mph on Bonneville! 06.19.2012 - Custom Painter Joe Andersen Has Passed Away
June 18, 2012 legendary custom painter Joe Andersen passed away from diabetic complications. Joe started his striping business on Western Avenue in Los Angeles in the 1950s. He went on to buy his own shop on 1519 W. Florence Ave., Los Angeles that he purchased and turned into Custom Auto Painting by Joe Andersen. Many custom painted cars went through Joe's shop in the late 1950s and 1960s, and Joe quickly became one of the most recognized custom painters of that era.

The Swedish punks behind the Bastardized DVD is back with their second movie! It's a long way from California to Sweden, but the distance seems shorter after watching this movie. "An Ode to the '36" is a celebration of the 1936 Ford in the form of a T-Shirt. Ever since its inception, the 1936 Ford has been one of the most popular pre-war cars to customize. Ray Giovannoni's 1936 Ford Roadster, restyled by east coast customizer Bud Unger, is one of Kustomrama's favorite 36's, so when a tribute shirt to the 1936 Ford should be made we used an old photo of Ray's Ford as inspiration.

07.29.2011 - Frank Kurtis' 1941 Buick to be Auctioned Away
September 1-4, 2011 the restored Kurtis Buick Special will be offered for sale at the upcoming Auburn Fall auction in Auburn, Indiana. The Kurtis Buick Special started life as a 1941 Buick Roadmaster. After being totaled in a car accident, legendary fabricator and metal shaper Frank Kurtis bought the remains, and turned the slab sided Buick in to a sleek and quite futuristic car for its time. The build was completed in 1948.

07.28.2011 - Truly Rare is up for Grabs
A unique piece of Illinois custom history is up for grabs as Gene Howard's 1950 Buick, also known as Truly Rare, will be auctioned away at the upcoming Auburn Fall auction in September. Gene, who ran Gene Howard's Body Shop in Bloomington, Illinois began transforming the Buick into a wild show car in the late 1950s. The first version was wild, but pretty modest compared to the version that graced the cover of Popular Customs Fall 1965.

05.30.2011 - Ron Aguirre Passed Away
After fighting bone cancer for a while, Ron Aguirre passed away Thursday, May 26th, 2011. Ron was an innovative craftsman that entered the history books around 1958/1959 when he installed hydraulics on his customized 1956 Chevrolet Corvette. The car, known as the X-Sonic, was one of the first, if not the first car ever to be raised and lowered using hydraulics. The X-Sonic was also the first Show Rod fit with a Bubble Top.

01.12.2011 - Jack Walker's Blue Danube Clone is Up for Grabs
While hunting for the real Blue Danube custom car, Jack Walker got in touch with the original owner Lyle Lake, who could tell him that the old custom was crushed a long time ago. So instead of locating the original car, Jack set off to build a recreation instead. The build was completed in 1998. Jack still owns the car, but has decided to sell it. Anyone interested in the car can mail Kustomrama and we will forward your mail to Jack.

11.18.2010 - Stolen Car Alert: Bugs' 1935 Ford Coupe - The Ruby Deluxe
Bugs' 1935 Ford Custom, also known as the Ruby Deluxe was stolen last night from a residence in Burbank, California. The car who was built by Troy Ladd and his crew at Hollywood Hot Rods was loaded on a trailer to travel to the Goodguys show in Scottsdale to receive the "Kustom of the Year" award. I can't see why anybody would steal such an unique car, but keep your eyes open for a black Hallmark trailer with license plate 4GT8289.

11.02.2010 - The El Matador is Up for Grabs
After moving his business from Wichita, Kansas to Monterey, California, the El Matador was the first creation to roll out of Bill Cushenbery's shop. During the 1960s and 1970s, Promotions, Inc, AMT, and Carl Casper toured the El Matador all over the country. In the 1990s the car was totaled in a fire. Harold Murphy bought the remains and had the car restored. In January the car will be offered for sale at the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Collector Car Auction

09.25.2010 - R.I.P Joaquin Arnett
September 24, 2010 Joaquin passed away after battling alzheimer's and bouts with pneumonia. Joaquin, a Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame member, was born in 1927. He got interested in cars starting at an early age, around 12 or 13 and was a founding member of the Bean Bandits Club. Joaquin was the brainchild and mastermind of the Bean Bandits and he designed, built and drove cars that broke and set many records.

Watson's Custom Car Confessions is a brand new book by Thom Taylor and Larry Watson about custom paint legend Larry Watson's personal cars. The book was literally finished the night Larry Watson died and it is a great tribute to his life and legacy with the cars he displayed his unique talents through. This year's Grand National Roadster Show will contain an elite gathering of the most historically significant customs in the world. 08.25.2010 - RIP Larry Alexander
Today we lost another legend as Larry Alexander of the Alexander Brothers duo in Detroit, Michigan passed away after being hospitalized after a mini stroke. Larry was the oldest of four brothers, and after studying body and fender work at the Wolverine Trade School, Larry and Mike Alexander opened up the Alexander Brothers Custom Shop on Northwestern Highway near Evergreen Road in Detroit in 1957.

08.10.2010 - Dick King's 1929 Ford Roadster up for Grabs
Dick King's 1929 Ford Model A Roadster, built in the late 1940s is currently for sale. Since its feature in Hot Rod Magazine January 1951 the car has been restored and slightly modified. The restored version of the car was owned by Barry Williams. After Barry passed away, Bob Campbell of 356 Services was asked to sell the Barry Williams Collection which consisted of the Dick King roadster and 5 other cars.

A new documentary on the history of auto racing in Los Angeles, and a tribute to America’s love affair with all things Auto is in the makings. With research based on a graduate dissertation turned into a book by Harold Osmer, and 15 years experience producing over 800 PBS shows for Huell Howser and KCET, a large collection of rare archival photos and footage, I really look forward to see this movie.

06.29.2010 - Two Iconic Hot Rods Going Under the Hammer in August
August 14th, 2010 two iconic, historic and very different styled hot rods are offered for sale at the Mecum, Monterey auction. One of these two hot rods is Ed Roth's Tweedy Pie. The Tweedy Pie was originally built by Bob Johnston in the 1950s, But Ed Roth bought it in 1962 and gave it a restyling. The other one is Art and Lloyd Chrisman's 1930 Ford Bonneville Coupe. One for show, and one for go!

06.08.2010 - Fritz Schenck's Latest Bubble Top Show Rod - The Baja Bandito
Legendary painter, show rod builder and restorer Fritz Schenck of Kansas City, Missouri has teamed up with illustrator Jimmy Smith, and is currently building a new fiberglass Bubble Top show rod called "The Baja Bandito". Based on Jimmy's drawings, the car is built upon a VW drive line with a super bell axle up front, a 1950 Mercury steering box, and a bunch of other cast off junkyard parts. Its being built in the timeless Ed Roth tradition of plaster spit wads & hand rolled fiberglass.

06.03.2010 - Old Hot Rod Icon for Sale on eBay
Another Hot Rod icon is currently up for sale on eBay. Originally hot rodded in California in 1948, the car was sold to Seattle, Washington in 1956. After being restyled by Grinders member Jerry Sprague in 1956 the car went through several owners and versions before it was put in storage in 1974. It resurfaced in 2004, and has since then been restored back to its third known version.

When I started to write this newsflash, Jack Stewart's 1941 Ford was up for sale on eBay with a "buy it now" price of US $39,000.00. Before I managed to complete the story, the car was already sold. A couple of weeks ago the well known Trendero was advertised for sale on the HAMB. The car was built by Dave Puhl and John Malik of Trend Automotive in Lyons, Illinois in 1960/1961. The car is currently located in Mound, Minnesota, and for $29,000 USD you can drive the old kustom home and park it in your garage.

03.10.2010 - Gene Winfield on World Tour
Legendary car builder and painter Gene Winfield has currently been on a world tour. As far as I know he only visited Australia, but while he was there he laid one of his famous paint jobs on Mario Colalillo's 1959 Cadillac Custom. The car will make it's debut at the 2010 Sydney Hot Rod Show, so I guess we have to wait until July before we can see the finished car.

The car was originally restyled by Bob McNutt in the late 1950s, and was exhibited at the 1st annual Dallas Autorama. The car was packed away for many years until David Guymon bought it in 1994 and restored it in 31 days.

In the early 1950s Charles Martz started a Sport Custom craze when he released his Build Your Own Custom Sports Car book. Many Sport Customs were built as a result of the book, but not so many succeeded with their creations. One of the best looking attempts was done by Chrysler Corporation in 1954 when they made their Plymouth Belmont. The news is just out that Troy Ladd of Hollywood Hot Rods will be awarded the prestigious "Builder of the Year" award at the 61st annual Grand National Roadster Show this upcoming weekend. The Cord inspired Frank Kurtis built 1937 Kurtis Tommy Lee Special is auctioned away at the Gooding & Company Scottsdale Auction January 22-23. The boattail masterpiece who was started by Frank in 1936 and completed in 1937 is estimated to sell between $250,000 - $350,000.

January 20 - 24, 2010 Gene Winfield's personal drive-around custom is going to be auctioned away at the 2010 Russo and Steele Scottsdale Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Named after a famous Chuck Berry tune, Gene built Maybellene in 1999. Another legendary car that will be auctioned away at the same auction is Dan Woods' Milk Truck, Dan's first Show Rod.

12.04.2009 - The Norman Timbs' Buick Special Streamliner is Soon Ready to Chase New Speed Records
As some of you may know the Norman Timbs' Buick Special Streamliner that was found in the hot California desert is currently being restored back to its former beauty by the guys at Custom Auto of Loveland. Photos showing the car coming back from the upholsterer was posted on the HAMB earlier today. By looking at the pictures it looks like the Norman Timbs' Buick Special will make a comeback to the scene prettier than it ever was!

11.27.2009 - Grant Langseth's 1956 Dodge Pickup for Sale on eBay
Another great kustom is currently for sale on eBay. This 1956 Dodge Pickup was originally built by Grant Langseth from Minot, North Dakota in 1959. After changing hands and being lost for many years the car was found on a used car lot in California. In 1991 Dick Dean restored the car, and gave it a new appearance known as the "Seet Pea".

11.11.2009 - The Astra Coupe is going under the hammer
January 22nd, 2010 Jay Everett`s handbuilt fastback known as The Astra Coupe will be auctioned away by RM Auctions at the Automobiles of Arizona auction in Phoenix, Arizona. The car has gone through several iterations over the years, but is now restored back to the way it appeared after Barris Kustoms restyled it in the 1950s.

In 2007 we announced that the Rodders Journal were putting together a hard-bound book containing exact reprints of the original issues of Throttle Magazine. The book has finally been put in production, and the Rodders Journal have started the pre-sale of the book. The first 1100 copies sold will be signed and numbered editions, 1-1000, and 1900-1999. The book is expected to be published in the summer of 2009.

01.30.2009 - Dee Wescott Passed Away
Another hot rod pioneer has left us. Dee Wescott passed away peacefully on January 29, 2009. Born in Portland, Oregon in 1927, Dee is famed for his work in both steel and fiberglass. In the 1950s Dee experimented with fiberglass repair in order to work on Corvettes, an experiment that later evolved into a full time business.

Built in 1950 by Lloyd Templeton and his two sons Don and Bob, the 1950 Saturn, also known as the Bob Hope Special is going under the hammer at the 2009 Arizona Biltmore Auction. The early hand built sport custom did actually win the "People’s Choice" award at the 1954 Motor World Fair in Miami.
