Hans Broberg and Kjell Gustad's 1938 Chevrolet Convertible with the body stripped down to bare metal. Known among friends as Sillarna, Hasse and Kjelle bought and built the car in 1962, powering it with an Oldsmobile V-8. This photo shows the Chevrolet during its early stages of construction, with the body sanded and prepped for paint. Photo from The Broberg Family Collection, courtesy of Lisa Broberg.
Kent Olof Olsson's 1955 Chevrolet parked outside a garage in Vendelsö circa 1962. The custom featured a home-applied flame paint job, and Bengt Wennergren recalled that the owner proudly told friends, “we’ve painted flames ourselves!” In the driveway sits a Fordson, and standing in front of the car is Arne Lindstrand, a well-known custom builder from the Stockholm area. A front view of Kent Olof Olsson's 1955 Chevrolet. In the garage ramp behind the car sits Bengt Wennergren's 1951 Ford. After Bengt found out that it was built from three different cars, he later sold it to a fello known as Lasse Bråttom. The 1955 Chevrolet’s bold flame job and shaved trim reflected the growing influence of American custom trends among young Swedish builders in the early 1960s. The Broberg Family Photo Collection is a private archive of photographs and home movies documenting the early Swedish hot rod and custom car scene through the life and projects of Hans "Hasse" Broberg of Enskedefältet, Stockholm. The collection includes rare images and home-recorded film footage from the 1950s through the 1960s, capturing Hasse’s builds, his adventures with Kjell "Kjelle" Gustad, and the formative years of their little car club known as The Sill Drivers.

The collection offers a look into the birth of Swedish hot rodding, from garage scenes in Vendelsö to wild road trips across Europe. The photos and films have been preserved and shared with Kustomrama by Hasse’s daughter, Lisa Broberg, who has generously opened the family archives to help keep her father’s legacy, and the early history of Swedish hot rodding, alive.
