Ulf and Mari Kusendal's 1950 Mercury of Kvissleby, Sweden. Blending American roots with Scandinavian craftsmanship, Ulf and Mari Kusendal's 1950 Mercury, known as Hysteria, has evolved from a 1960s-built U.S. custom into one of Sweden’s most celebrated show cars in 2025. Acquired in 2001, the Mercury served as a family hauler for nearly 90,000 km before undergoing a full rebuild beginning in 2019. Completed just hours before its debut at the 2025 Custom Motor Show in Jönköping, Hysteria stunned judges and was crowned Sveriges Snyggaste Bil 2025. The car also swept top honors at the 2025 Oslo Motor Show, including Skandinavias Flotteste Bil.
Alexander Hernesten's 1957 Buick Century of Stockholm, Sweden. Inspired by Jack James' legendary Watson-flamed Buick, Alexander's Buick is a faithful 95% tribute to one of custom history’s most iconic flame paint jobs. Acquired in 2015, the build spans ten years and two countries, with Alexander—based in London—returning to Sweden to work on the car. In 2025, Micke Eksrud laid down the signature red, orange, and yellow flame job, complete with mismatched wheel well colors and copper-plated trim. Blending Swedish craftsmanship with American show car tradition, the Buick is a transatlantic homage to Larry Watson's House of Style.
In 2025, Paulus Maximus of Melbourne, Australia, paid homage to Earl Bruce’s infamous flamed Gullwing by recreating the radical paint scheme on his 2017 Mercedes Benz] AMG GTS. Hand-drawn, scanned, and cut in his garage over 400 meticulous hours, the tribute channels the same spirit of rebellion that made Bruce’s car one of the most talked-about customs of the 1950s.
Andy Saunders' Dodge Daroo I Tribute of Poole, Dorset, UK. Inspired by Dodge’s 1967 factory show car built by Bill Brownlie and George Barris, Andy Saunders' Daroo I Tribute pays homage to one of the most radical Scat Pack-era creations. Based on a 1969 Dodge Dart and reworked to match the original’s 1967 profile, the tribute features a 10-inch shorter rear, 17-inch longer front, V-nose, wraparound windshield, and signature side pipes. Built using only two reference photos and period-correct details, including Parnelli Jones mags and Firestone Goldline Tires, the car was completed in June 2025 after 1,200 hours of work. Saunders debuted the car at the Beaulieu Custom and American Show, honoring the bold design legacy of the original Daroo I.
