Tom Mixon's 1936 Ford

1936 Ford four door convertible sedan owned by Tom Mixon of Houston, Texas. In 2017 Tom told John Watkins that he bought the car in Oceanside, California in 1949. At the time he was in the Marines Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside. Tom went into the Marines Corp october 28, 1948.[1]


The Ford had already been restyled when Tom bought it. It was a four-door 1936 Ford from the dash back. The front sheet metal, grille, and fenders were 1940 Ford. The running boards had been removed and it ran panels that hid the frame. The windshield frame was chopped, and it was dressed up running dual spotlights, a cowl antenna, fenderskirts, whitewall tires, single flipper hubcaps and a 1940 Oldsmobile front bumper. The steering wheel and engine were from a 1946 - 1948 Ford. It also came with a padded top. Some work was also done to the trunk Tom remembered in 2017.[1]


Sold in Houston

Tom drove the car back home to Houston, where he had it for a while. In 1951 his parents sold it, while he was in the Korean war.[1]
