The 2023 SEMA Show was held from October 31 through November 4, 2023. Coby Gewertz's 1934 Ford 5-Window Coupe was one of the many radical builds displayed at the show. Known as "St. Christopher," the controversial coupe was built by South City Rod & Custom. Coby's Coupe has been a highlight at various automotive shows, including the prestigious 2023 Grand National Roadster Show and the 2023 SEMA Show, where it has garnered attention for its unique features and bold paint job. The SEMA Show is an annual event organized by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), which was established in 1963 by pioneering individuals such as Roy Richter, Ed Iskenderian, Els Lohn, and others. The organization encompasses a diverse group of aftermarket manufacturers, OEMs, media, car dealers, distributors, installers, retailers, and restoration specialists from around the globe.[1]

History

The inaugural SEMA Show took place in 1967 in the basement of Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, marking the beginning of what would become one of the most significant events in the automotive industry. In its first year, the show featured ninety-eight manufacturers in booths, attracted 3,000 attendees, and displayed five cars, including a 1967 Ford GT40 in the Shelby America booth and a drag-race-prepped Dodge Dart. After several years, the show moved to the new Anaheim Stadium in 1974 as it grew in size and prominence.[1]

Industry Impact

From its modest beginnings, the SEMA Show has significantly influenced the automotive sector, providing a platform for industry professionals to connect, showcase their innovations, and advocate for their interests, especially in the legislative arena.[2]

Services and Programs

SEMA continues to support the industry through research, trend analysis, and legislative advocacy, catering to the needs of its diverse membership through specialized councils and programs.[2]

SEMA Show

The SEMA Show is now renowned for its extensive showcase of automotive specialty products, drawing thousands of industry professionals annually and featuring a vast array of vehicles and products that reflect the dynamism of the automotive aftermarket.[2]
