Riley as he looked in 1984 when Classic & Custom magazine did a featured memory lane story on him.

Riley Collins of Chico, California ran and operated Riley's Custom Shop in Chico. Riley saw his first custom car on the streets of Sacramento in the late 1940s. He liked what he saw, and decided to build his own custom based on a 1948 Chevrolet fastback. Once completed, the car won many trophies, giving Riley a lot of potential customers wanting him to build them a car. Riley teamed up with his good friend Jim Roten, who was an artist and designer. While Jim did the sketching, Riley did the metal and paint work.[1]

Later on, Riley moved to Hawaii where he and his son Kent worked on transforming VW's in custom bugs.
