Richard Zocchi

Richard Zocchi's 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix was restyled by Gene Winfield of Winfield's Custom Shop in 1962.

Richard Zocchi's 1964 Buick Wildcat. Richard's Buick featured hydraulic lifts by Bill Hines and a fadeaway paint job by Gene Winfield of Winfield's Custom Shop. The car was restyled in 1964, when it was brand new.

Richard Zocchi's Second 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix was restyled by Lucky 7 Custom for Richard Zocchi. The car was built as a chopped clone of a 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix that Gene Winfield restyled for Zocchi in 1962. The build was completed in 2002.

Richard Louis Zocchi (December 30, 1941 - October 20, 2016) of Walnut Creek, California.

First Car

Richard was born in Concord, California. He has been customizing all makes of cars since the age of sixteen. Richard's first custom, which he drove at age 16 was a slammed 1953 Ford that featured a 1954 Chevrolet grille with extra teeth added, 1956 Oldsmobile taillight lenses, 1956 Oldsmobile spinner hubcaps and Appleton spotlights.

Athlete and Carpenter

Richard graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1959. He was a star athlete and after graduation went to work as a carpenter in the Zocchi Company with his brothers Frank and Carlo.

After the 1953 Ford followed a 1957 Oldmobile in 1960. The Olds that was all molded in and covered in a Candy gold paint job by Gene Winfield.

Cool 50

Richard's eye-catching creations have won countless prestigious awards at all the major West Coast car shows based on excellence in design, workmanship and paint. In the mid 1970s, when custom car creations were virtually at a standstill, Richard’s awesome “Cool 50″ Mercury was one of the primary vehicles that inspired the resurgence of customizing 1950s cars that continues to this day!

In 2013 Richard continued to design and produce a stunning new cruiser every year. His cars have graced countless magazine covers and his passion for this “sport” remained stronger than ever after almost fifty years.

Passed Away

October 20, 2016 Richard passed away from a rare lung disorder.
