Ralph Tyrone Scarfo's 1950 Oldsmobile
1950 Oldsmobile 88 hardtop owned by Ralph Tyrone Scarfo of North Bergen, New Jersey. Ralph bought the old custom from a fellow in Southern California in 2011. The seller had only owned it for a year at the time, and he told Ralph that he had bought it from a friend of his who found it in a barn after about a 40 years hibernation. The roof on the old custom featured a 2 inch chop. The rear wheel openings were radiused, and the body was nosed, decked and shaved for door handles. The hood had also received louvers. When Ralph bought the car it featured an Oldsmobile rocket engine that was fed through two 4-barrel carburetors. It was pinstriped by Alex Alovera. In 2014 Ralph got a hold of Alex. Alex remembered the car, and he told Ralph that it was built in San Diego, probably in the mid 1960s. Ralph has traced the car back to a fellow that owned a Snap-On dealer. That guy did also drag race the car.[1]
