Late in 1956 Dave had Dick Bertolucci of Bertolucci Body & Fender Shop shave the hood, trunk and door handles on the brand new Ford. After Bertolucci had done his magic, Dick Katayanagi temporarily pinstriped the primer spots and a few details for Dave early in 1957. Dave had named his under progress custom the Tormentor, and Dick pinstriped this name on the hood of the car. Photo courtesy of David Rolin.

This version of David Rolin's 1957 Ford, The Tormentor, was completed in February of 1958, featuring a paint job by Dick and Dave. In the late 1950s Dave Rolin served as an apprentice to Dick Katayanagi. Later on Dick would pinstripe the car, before he eventually gave it a scallop paint job.

He was also into retailing Candy Paint colors marketed as Custom Mixed Translucent Colors.[1] Dick ran a a custom paint shop in North Sacramento, called Katayanagi Custom Paint, were he did full painting, scalloping and striping. The shop was actually a rented space in a sign shop. David Rolin served as an apprentice to Dick in his shop in the late 1950s.[2]
