Custom Cars Magazine
Custom Cars Magazine was a monthly magazine by Teen Publications located in 5959 Hollywood Blvd in Los Angeles, California. The first issue of Custom Cars Magazine was published in September 1957. Robert Petersen was the first publisher of Custom Cars. Wally Parks was the first editorial director, and Dick Day the first editor.[1]
According to the editorial introduction in Custom Cars September 1957, the keynote for the new all-custom car publication was the word "pictorial". "Pictorial" in the sense of extensive coverage, as they believed that a good photo was worth several thousand words. The concept of the magazine was therefore to give their readers many photos, and little editorial copy. In order to stand by their words, the magazine contained two inside covers that displayed good quality shots of some of the most outstanding current customs. Frank and Charles Gilardone's 1953 Ford was featured on the inside cover of the first magazine.
