Albrecht Goertz' 1940 Mercury
1940 Mercury owned and restyled by Albrecht Goertz of Los Angeles, California. Albert's Mercury was restyled in 1939. At the time, he rented a garage and showroom where he modified Ford Model A and B's. He called the Mercury the "Paragon". The Paragon was exhibited at the World Exhibition in New York in 1939.[1]
Goertz joined the US Army in 1940. He served for five years. After leaving the Army, he drove the Paragon to New York. While driving it, he accidentally encountered the famous car designer Raymond Loewy. Loewy invited Goertz to his office, sent him to college to learn about design and later gave him a job in the Studebaker studio in Indiana.[1]
In 1952 a photo of it was published in Trend Book 105 Restyle Your Car.[2]
