The Trygve Westbye's Mechanix Illustrated Special is a Norwegian special racer built by Trygve Westbye of Askim, Norway. Trygve found the plans for the car in an issue of Mechanix Illustrated. The story featured a special racer built on the chassis of an early 1930s Ford V8. After reading the story, Trygve went ahead and bought a 1934 Ford V8. The frame was lowered and modified, and the structure for the body was made from flat iron and steel tubing. The body was then formed around the structure. After completing the build, Trygve ran the car at different Norwegian races such as the Momarken race track. Trygve raced the car both summer and winter. As this was prior to spiked winter tires, Trygve drained the tires for much of its air, before he installed chains that were a little to small for the tires. The tires were then pumped up again. This technique worked well. Later on, Trygve sold this car, and went ahead and built another homemade special.[1]

Not able to locate his old special racer, Trygve cloned the car later on in life.
