Joe DeSantin's 1959 Chevrolet custom photographed at the 1961 Tridents Rod Custom Autorama. Restyled by Kustom Associates of Burbank, California, front end modifications included a rolled pan, a custom mesh grille, rounded hood corners, and Imperial-type headlights. Teddy Zgrzemski worked with the builder of the car, Karl, at Barris Kustoms in 1958; "We were both painters helpers for Junior. Then when I returned in 1960 he had left and opened up his own shop. This was one of his first cars," Teddy told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama in 2019. Photo courtesy of Steve Arnold.
Flaky Street Roadster! A rare color photo of the Candy Burgundy Metalflake iteration of Gary Heliker's 1926 Ford Model T roadster taken at the Tridents Rod Custom Autorama indoor car show. This iteration of the car was featured in Rod & Custom May 1962. Two months later it appeared in Hot Rod Magazine July 1962. By then the car had been repainted in a wild Green Metalflake. Bobby Darrin's Dream Car photographed at the 1961 Tridents Rod Custom Autorama indoor car shows. The futuristic custom, also known as the Di Dia 150 was designed by clothing designer Andy Di Dia and Bobby Darrin in 1953. It was brought alive by Clarkaiser Custom Shop in Detroit, Michigan. The seven-year build was completed in 1960, and according to Ed Roth, it was this car that gave him the idea for the bubble top on the Beatnik Bandit. Photo courtesy of Steve Arnold.
