Stuart Hilborn's Lakester
Lakester/Streamliner owned by Santa Monica Low Flyers member Stuart Hilborn. Stuart bought his now famous Streamliner from Bill Warth, but didn't have it done for the first SCTA meet in May of 1942 so he didn't run.[1]
On August 10, 1947 at Harper Dry Lake Stuart was out racing with his Streamliner. The weather was bad that day and a cross wind got him sideways and the left rear wire wheel colapsed sending the car on its head. He was trying some new Firestone 18" indy tires and they had so much grip that the load pulled the rim off the hub and over he went. After three weeks in the hospital with crushed vertebras, he went home in a body cast. Later he would gain fame and fortune with his mechanical fuel injection systems. It was running Eddie Miller's carb manifold at the time fitted with one Stromberg double barrell EE3 and three single barrell EE's.[1]
