Russetta
The Russetta Timing Association was a dry lakes sanctioning body that was formed because closed cars weren't recognized by the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) at the dry lakes. It was active from around 1948 until 1961 and was SCTA's chief rival organization at the time. It was made up of numerous car clubs who raced against each other for a yearly points championship and points for individuals were also awarded.
Some of the clubs that raced under RTA sanction were the LA Autocrats, Norwalk Cam Busters, El Monte Night Hawks, San Diego Prowlers, San Pedro Rod Riders and East LA Vultures.
Eventually the RTA and other sanctioning bodies were absorbed by the SCTA which currently is the only sanctioning body for Land Speed Racing at El Mirage and is one of 3 organizations that sanction meets on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
