A photo of Gene Thurman's 1934 Ford 5-Window Coupe taken at El Mirage Dry Lake in October of 1951. Gene and Bob served in the Air Force in Korea at the time, but they were on leave when this photo was taken. During the event, Gene ran a 1/4" stroked flathead 59A engine that belonged to Bob. The coupe ran 119 MPH with Bob's engine. From left to right in the photo are Ed Thurman, Gene's dad, Leonard, a friend of Gene, Bob Herzog, and Jerry Herzog, Bob's dad. Robert "Bob" Herzog of Bell, California. Bob was a member of the Drag-Ons car club. Bob passed away in 2018.[1]
