Orvel Reichert of Escalon, California was a member of the Modesto Century Toppers Car Club from 1948 to 1955. At the time Orvel was known as "Speed Reichert" by most of his buddies. Orvel built his first A-V8 hot rod in 1950. He was 18 years old when he started the project, and due to lack of money the build took 17 months to complete. Once completed the build had costed Orvel $1,700 USD. He got 122.03 at the Rosamond Dry Lake the same year with the car. In early 1951 Orvel was drafted, and went to Korea.[1]

When Orvel returned from Korea in 1953 he bought Harold Ohanesian's 1934 Ford 3-Window Coupe. He put his original 1947 Mercury engine in the coupe, and ran on straight Alky. The best time he turned on a 1/4 mile was 120.00. Then he got married, and it all ended for Orvel.[1]
