Ole Finstad's 1928 Ford
1928 Ford Model A Roadster owned and raced by Ole Finstad of Oslo, Norway. Ole worked as a salesman at Nilsen & Robsahm, a Ford dealer in Oslo. Ole's roadster featured an OHV head manufactured by Kampen Mekaniske Verksted in Oslo. The special head was later given to Greger Strøm. Unfortunately it disappeared during a attic-cleanup in Oslo while Greger was living in Trondheim.[1]
Finstad was known for his special driving, and he would usually wear out a clutch on each run he attended. He was known for running with a "floored" hand-throttle, using the clutch and brakes around the corners, usually on two wheels as well so he could save some rubber. Finstad's technique worked, and he was often first across the finish-line. Another story tells how he used a rubberband around the steering-wheel-throttle and the ignition during a hill-climb up Korketrekkeren in Oslo. By locking these on top, he could use both hands steadily on the steering wheel.[1]
February 15, 1931 Ole attended Gjersjøløpet in Oppegård municipiality, outside of Oslo, with his roadster. Ole ran the car without fenders carrying the number 20. He competed in the fifth heat of the day, and came in third after Arvid Johansen's 1930 Ford Model A Roadster and Bjarne Aarsten in his Hudson. Overall, Ole came fourth in his class, cars between 1100 - 1500 ccm that day. Eugen Bjørnstad won with his Fiat 525 S.[1]
