Rod News car club of the month, Nov. 1956
Danny Purinton's 1956 Mercury of Long Beach, California. Danny was a member of the Lakewood Creators car club, and his Mercury was restyled by Ed Schelhaas at Schelhaas Custom Shop. George Newton, Schelhaas' painter, painted the car in a lustrous Bahamas Blue Metallic nitro lacquer. Watson pinstriped the car in imitation Gold July 21, 1956, the night before the third annual Norwalk Motorcade. According to Larry, 22 pinstriped cars were entered in the show. Von Dutch had four, Dean Jeffries had seven, and Larry Watson had eleven.

The Creators Car Club were a custom car club from Lakewood California. Originally formed in 1953, The Creators were a custom car only club with no hot rods and that is apparent in their plaque design. The requirements for joining the club were for your car to be a full custom or semi custom. Creators meetings were held at Sandy Kroll's house 4833 Fidler Ave in Lakewood on Monday nights. The club held a annual event each year called the "Rock N Roll Jubilee" which included a dance and other car clubs from the LA area were invited as well.[1]
