A rare 1940 Mercury Convertible Sedan, and the other Mercury beyond were cars restyled by Jones's Body, Fender & Paint Shop while George worked there.[1]

After moving to Los Angeles, George Barris worked for Jones' Body, Fender & Paint Shop at Florence and Main. To begin with they didn't do much custom work, but when they saw what George could bring in that kind of business, they encouraged him to continue, and the business began to pick up. George worked his way up becoming a foreman at the shop.[1]
