George Barris and Sam Barris' 1925 Buick
1925 Buick owned and restyled by George Barris and Sam Barris of Roseville, California. The Buick was their first car, and after George and Sam told their parents that they wanted to work with cars instead of working in the family restaurant, their mother gave them the family car in 1938. At the time, George was 13 years old, and both Sam and George were attending high school. When they got the car, George went to the hardware store and bought some house paint for their new project. While George tried his hand at straightening up the mangled fenders, Sam took up a brush and proceeded to paint the car orange and blue, with diagonal stripes of various colors.[1]
In order to further fancy up the car, George visited a kitchen store and bought some dishes and pans that he used to make hubcaps for the car. By robbing gold knobs from all the cabinets in his parents house, George also created a custom grille for the Buick. The Buick was also pimped up with foxtails, a very popular touch at the time. While George was spending a great deal of his spare time in, and under the car, Sam was busy setting athletic records.[2]
