Dwight Dennis' 1942 Mercury
1942 Mercury owned and restyled by Dwight Dennis of El Segundo, California. The car was nosed, decked and shaved for door handles. In the rear, a set of 1941 Ford rear fenders were molded to the rear end of a 1941 Mercury convertible. The front end was shaped with 20-gauge sheet metal to follow the front and side patterns. The grille was replaced by a huge air scoop. The passenger door was discarded as well. The body was not channeled, but it was lowered one under an inch stock clearance. Air scoop between fender and hood was for ventilation inside the cab. The windshield was chopped, and a padded top was installed. Dwight had his car running on blackwall Firestone tires.[1]
