"Drag News" was a notable publication in the United States during the 1960s that covered the sport of drag racing. It was one of the key independent magazines during a period often referred to as the golden age of drag racing publications.[1]

History

Established in 1955, "Drag News" was one of the longest-running independent drag racing magazines during the golden age of drag racing publications. This era, which arguably spanned the years of 1965 and 1966, was characterized by an abundance of independent drag racing publications, particularly in Southern California.[1]

Despite its significance, the golden age of drag racing publications was relatively brief. Various factors, including a lack of sufficient ad revenue, led to the decline of many of these independent publications. Although "Drag News" had a strong readership, it faced competition from other magazines like "Drag World" and "Drag Sport Illustrated," which eventually led to its discontinuation.[1]

Content and Influence

"Drag News" covered a wide range of topics related to drag racing, profiling key figures, events, and developments in the sport. The magazine is remembered for its significant influence in the drag racing community and its contribution to the documentation of the sport's history.[1]

Despite the competition it faced from newer publications, "Drag News" was often referred to as "the bible" in the drag racing community, demonstrating its respected status and influence.[1]
