Dick's Body Shop
Dick's Body Shop was a custom body shop in Long Beach, California. The shop was owned and operated by Dick Farguson. Dick was originally from Pawnee, Oklahoma, but he moved to California in 1939. In Oklahoma Dick owned a gas station. When he first settled down in California drove long-haul trucks. After shipbuilding work during World War II[1], Dick opened up Dick's Body Shop at 1749 Santa Fe Avenue.[2]
Bill Loveliss and the Ramblers of Long Beach
Dick did the work on Ramblers of Long Beach member Bill Loveliss' 1941 Ford Coupe when Bill was in high school. Bill worked for Dick part time but went full time after he graduated. In 2019, Bruce Bartlertt, a charter member of the Ramblers told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama that Dick Farguson at Dick's Body Shop did work on the majority of their club cars; "He did really nice work and the best part for all us high school kids, he was very reasonable. He did a '47 Cad for me just before I graduated." Bruce also remember that Bill Loveliss eventually wound up with his own body shop in Compton.[3]
