Delmar McCutcheon's 1969 Chevrolet
1969 Chevrolet El Camino owned by Delmar McCutcheon of Bakersfield, California. Delmar's semi custom was known as the Clown Wagon, and it attended over 150 shows throughout USA and California, and he won the South East Divison with it in the 1970s. Delmar was also "Car Owner of the Year for ISCA, and "Exhibitor of the Year" for the Pacific Division.[1]
The body work on the Clown Wagon was done by Russ Meeks and Rod Powell. Jim Burres of Bakerfield, California painted the car twice, while the upholstery was done by Lee Wells of Clovis, California. Delmar was the first person to install observor seats in the bed of an El Camino, complete with a television, radio and bar. A fish aquarium was installed between the bucket seats. The car did originally have a SS396-375 that Delmar bought new for $2900. He took that engine out and installed a LS6 454 with 2 four barrel carburetors. The engine block was bought from a speed shop in Southern California that originally built it up for a AA dragster. The car had a 12-1 compression ratio.[1]
Delmar sold the Clown Wagon in 2009, after the third paint job had been applied.[1]
