Bill Farley
Bill Farley of Dominguez, California. Bill was in a club briefly called "The Scarabs." It was started by two guys whose family owned the local Ford Agency in Wilmington, California. Most notable was Don Knott, who is still in business. In 2016 Bill told Kustomrama that his car at the time was a 1940 Ford coupe; "Another engine transplant with a V8 out of a Buick shook it apart."[1]
After the 1940 Ford followed a 1947 Chevrolet Business Coupe; "The separation division of Los Angeles County and the Long Beach City limits is 223rd St. Where 223rd and Alameda St. intersect, was Lions Drag strip. I grew up on East 219th St about a quarter mile from Lions. When the wind was right on Sundays you could get a whiff of the mixture of the smoke from slicks mixed with bleach mixed with nitro. Opening day was for car clubs only. I had a 1947 Chevrolet Business Coupe I bought from the City of LA. Dropped in a brand new stovebolt six that started life as a US Army truck block. Engine was built by the aforementioned Walt Richter. Not real fast but his engines never blew. The classification at that time was "D Gas". As best as I can recollect I was the first run made at the strip at the official opening. All of 80mph..Shift points on that high revving baby were at 3400 rpm. That whole area was car oriented. The Bill Stroppe Lincolns, Mickey Thompsons shop, Moon, Iskendarian, Sifton, Hunt, Barris ect.."[1]
