Steve Harper's 1951 Mercury
1951 Mercury owned by Steve Harper of Dodge City, Kansas. Darryl Starbird of Star Kustom Shop chopped the top on the Merc as a how-to article in the late 1950s. All bodywork was done in lead. Del Bartel of Dodge City bought it as a teenager and sold it in the mid-1970s. In 2020 Del told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama that the Merc was a basket case when he bought it. "The car was never finished prior to me owning it. It was a work in progress." Since then, the car has been all over the US. According to Del, it was totally finished in Wisconsin, but it went downhill from there, and it has had numerous owners since.[1]
