The Slo Poks of Wapato, Washington was a small northwest club started in 1959-1960. The club rented a clubhouse building from Logan's Feed And Seed for club functions and to work on their cars. There was a Blacksmith in the same building, and he was a bit notorious for raising and fighting cocks.[1]

Most club activities consisted of cruising Yakima Avenue or casual get-togethers. In the rural areas of West Wapato, the county roads had mile-long stretches between intersections and very low traffic. Impromptu races were "sanctioned2 by blocking off intersections and making runs until the cops heard about it and arrived to break things up. Another club that started around the same time in Wapato was the Loafers, founded by Lincoln Noble. The clubs were aware of each other but didn’t interact or participate in joint functions.[1]

Another club focus was to be ambassadors for the hobby by assisting motorists that had broken down or were in need of assistance. Club members would present said motorist with a courtesy card stating that the Slo-Poks had helped them. Most club members' cars were mostly stock with small personal custom touches. Club founder and president Bill Bremer Sr. owned a 1957 Ford with a 430 Lincoln engine. The car was nicknamed "White Lightning" and was well known in their small circle.[1]
