Joe Nikrent (08.04.1879 - 07.25.1958) was an early dry lake racer. In 1909 Joe and his brother Louis drove a Buick to victory in the Los Angeles to Phoenix Road Race. The Nikrent brothers covered 480 miles in 19 hours and 13 minutes for an average speed of 24.98 mph.[1]

Joe was a favorite at the prestigious Santa Monica Road Races. He and his brother Louis combined to make more appearances that any other single driver at the venue. In May of 1911 he raced his Case there finishing 6th. He entered the Kane County Trophy in August with a Staver-Chicago, but was out after one lap.[1]

July 5, 1912 Joe won the Old Orchard Beach Races with his Case. Joe raced in the Class C division (non stock) 231-300 cubic inch displacement class. His winning time was 10 minutes and 28 seconds, for slightly less than 60 mph. The course on the 400 foot wide beach was a five mile loop.[2]

In 1913 Joe attended the Indianapolis 500 with his Case. Joe had car number 3. Due to busted bearings he broke down after 67 laps, taking the 18th place.[3]

Joe attended the 1913 Los Angeles to Phoenix Road Race with his Buick, and finished third in 22 hours and 11 minutes.[4]

In May of 1923 Joe set a record of 108.24 miles per hour in a stripped down Buick at the Muroc Dry Lake. The run was made under the supervision of the American Automobile Association.[5]
