History and Modifications

Momo purchased the Impala in 1989 after selling his 1961 Impala. Over the course of 23 years, he meticulously modified "El Diablo" during each winter season. Once completed, it boasted a deep lacquered black paint job adorned with Candy Red Metalflake scallops, a collaborative effort between Momo, the renowned pinstriper Captain Blaster, and the painter Mister Kool. Further enhancing the car's unique look, Momo incorporated an Air Ride Suspension and removed handles, badges, and locks, retaining only the essential chrome. The car's aesthetic was complemented by Supreme wheels paired with white wall tires, a Tuck n' Roll interior design, a flames throwers exhaust system, and a Tri-Power carburetor engine.

Journey Across the USA

"El Diablo" wasn't just a showpiece; it was a car that traveled. Jean-Daniel, accompanied by his wife and a few club members, embarked on a 5-week journey across the southern USA with the car. The adventure began when the car was shipped from Geneva to California.

During their travels, they participated in several notable car meetings. These included the renowned Friday evening gathering at Bob's Big Boy in Burbank, a rendezvous with the esteemed Road Kings of Burbank, and the K.O.A. meeting in Moab, Utah. At the Utah meeting, Momo had the honor of meeting legendary figures like Joe Bailon, John D'Agostino, Dave Pareso, and Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. Roth even added a personal touch by painting a stripe on Momo's leather jacket, a cherished memento that he still possesses. The meeting in Utah was memorable, culminating in a Flame Throwers competition. Their journey also took them to the K.K.O.A. meeting in Tennessee before concluding in Florida, from where "El Diablo" was shipped back home.

Lost in a Tragic Fire

2012 brought tragedy when "El Diablo" was lost in a fire at the Crazy Cruisers Club House.

Legacy

Reflecting on the car's impact, Jean-Daniel notes, "The 1965 Impala that I had for 23 years was really the car that had the greatest impact on people."
