Horace Mann's 1953 Studebaker
1953 Studebaker Commander owned by Maywood Drag Wagons member Horace Mann.
Horace went to Bell High School. "At the time you had a choice of Bell or Huntington Park high schools," Horace told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama in 2019. "[[Ed "Big Daddy" Roth did the scallops on the original car. At the time my buddies and I didn't know what scallops were." When Horace met Roth in South Gate he had just gotten out of the military. "While in the service he learned to do scallops on the service equipment," Horace recalled. "So I said to Ed, do what you want and surprise me. And that was the start of our friendship in the year 1957."[1]
Horace and his wife went on their honeymoon with the car, and after the trip, he named the car "Silhouette."
Horace did a remake of the car for the 50th anniversary.
