C. H. Peterson's 1940 Ford-Willys
A Sport Custom built by C. H. Peterson of California, based on a 1940 Willys frame with a full-race Ford engine, hence the name Ford-Willys. "Custom Speedster" was the descriptive name applied to Petersons race buggy. Crown of the hood was from a 1941 Ford, and crowns of the front fenders are off a 1940 Willys. 1942 Ford bumpers were installed, along with a grille from a 1946 DeSoto. Rest of the body was all done by hand from sheet-stock. The car was fit with a red canvas top that could be raised and lowered with electric-power. The car had no doors, so you had to climb in the cab. The car was built in a span of 18 months, and the total cost was $3500.[1]
