1939 Ford Convertible Coupe restyled by C. E. Johnson of California in the late 1940s. When Johnson began restyling his 1939 Ford, he had no metal experience at all, he just did it as a hobby. However, he became so fascinated that he could not quit! The front end was modified with a homemade grill, made from top and bottom bars from a 1946 Chevrolet, and inverted 1948 Buick center pieces. The top was chopped 2 inches and fit with a metal top covered with fabric, which could easily be unsnapped and removed. The front Fadeaway Fenders and rear fenders, along with the skirts were formed from flat sheet stock. The rear fenders were actually designed before the 1949 Pontiac hit the streets![1]
