Bill Palmgren's 1940 Ford Coupe
Bill Palmgren from Solna, Sweden started to build this 1940 Ford DeLuxe Coupe in 1970.
The history of the car is not so clear, but from photos from the Broberg Collection, we can identify a 1940 DeLuxe outside the
Hot Rod Barn in Huddinge. This model was very rare outside U.S., but it was probably sold new in Sweden around the WW2.
According to Stig Sinclair, it must be the car that went into Bill's hands in the late 1960s.[1]
The body was very rusty so Bill had a tough job replacing the lower parts. Pieces from a 1939 Ford have been used.
The frame is from a 1939, modified with a 3" dropped front axle with Buick brakes. At rear is a Chevrolet axle.
Bill choosed a 283" Chevy with the knowledge of that the car might be difficult to get approved.
The interior was made in black, including a Grant steering wheel, a Hurst shifter and gauges from Lotus Cortina.
The bodywork is flawless and Bill had the car later repainted by Ivve Hallberg in black with subtile flames on the front fenders.
The car has been kept almost untouched for many years, but due to an accident with a bus, damaging left front fender, it was repaired
and repainted without any trace of the damage!
The car is today just as good as ever! Bill was awarded by SSRA in 2023 for being the same Hot Rod owner for over 50 years.
He brings it out occassionally on summer meetings and coffee trips, which is well appreciated!
