Al Twitchell was born and raised in Hollywood, California. His family came from Maine, but moved to Hollywood around 1920. Al worked at a body shop until 1955. Along with repair and paint work, some of the work included custom work. Al's last custom was a 1952 Ford station wagon that was on the cover of Rod & Custom October 1954. After building the station wagon he lost interest in building customs, although he would do minor 'touches' on almost any car he owned. Al also enjoyed looking and talking about his old custom cars. Al died in November 2010.
