Decked

Decked is a traditional custom car modification where the trunk emblem, lock, and trim are removed to achieve a cleaner, smoother rear deck. Like nosing, decking became popular in the 1940s and 1950s as part of the “shave and smooth” approach to custom styling. Builders would weld up the holes left behind, reshape the metal if needed, and finish the surface for a seamless look. Some customs featured hidden trunk releases or solenoids for added cleanliness. Often paired with frenched taillights and shaved rear fenders, a decked trunk helped emphasize long, flowing lines and showcased the builder’s attention to detail.
