Kustomrama Marketplace Featured Ad 1102 - 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne Time Capsule Deluxe
1959 Chevrolet Biscayne for sale. An amazing time capsule in great condition. A high school cruiser with all the very cool era correct parts still intact and useable.
Parked in the early 1970s
It was built in the mid 1960s and driven for a few years until garaged in the early 1970s. The last registration was done in 1977. It was then stored in a carport under layers of blankets and towels. Henrik Forss was able to purchase it from a man that found the car by pure happenstance a few years ago.
348 Big Block and manual transmission
The Biscayne was originally powered by a 348 cui big block and it has always had a manual transmission. It has spent its whole life in the Redding area in Northern California and it is a very straight car with very little rust. The only rust Henrik has found is some minor holes in some floor pans. The frame is unmolested and solid as is the trunk and all the body mounts.
Repainted and shaved prior to 1965
It was painted Roman Red from the factory but repainted the current color sometime before 1965, after the Biscayne emblems were removed. The year of the re-paint is determined due to a service sticker in the door jamb dated 1965 placed on top of the new color.
Since the last service record in 1965, the car has only rolled 17000 miles! It got a new sharp white tuck'n'roll interior instead of the stock gray cloth/vinyl at the same time. The package tray was later covered in angel hair, but still has the tuck'n'roll underneath. A new carpet was at some point installed on top of the original rubber mats, that are also in good condition. The garnish moldings have all been chromed. The paint job is still in useable condition but can use a good buff.
Six-pack and rippled lakepipes
The owner initially ran the 348 cui with a six-pack, and the fuel block is still on the firewall. He installed a Hurst floor shifter. On the dash he installed a SUN tach, the steering wheel is from a 1965 Chevrolet Impala and the armrests are from a 1959 Chevrolet Impala. Up front it features a nice looking tube grille and the car has been dressed up with a set of beautiful rippled lakepipes.
Shasta Lake College 1967
There is a parking permit sticker in the vent window that indicates that the driver was a student at Shasta Lake College in 1967. The dual exhaust outlet has twin outlets. The owner mounted a set of Crestline Mark II wheels all around with bias ply tires and a thin whitewall. The Biscayne appears to have been raced as it has a set of wide steel wheels for the back with a set of Good Year Blue Streak tires.
The builder eventually blew up the engine, apparently while tuning it on his driveway. He then installed a 250 hp 327 cui engine. He also installed marker lights, seemingly from a 1968 Dodge on the front fenders, and 1968 Pontiac Firebird on the quarter panels.
After buying the car, Henrik cleaned it inside and out. Serviced the engine and got it running right away without any problem. It idled smooth and sounded good. "I checked under the valve covers and it’s very clean. This engine probably does not have many miles on it at all. I replaced the master cylinder and all-wheel cylinders and the brakes are now operating. I put four new tires on it as well. All the lights work, inside and out. Keep in mind, the car has not been driven on the streets for about 43+ years and obviously needs some more love before it’s ready for cruising. This is a very unique and unmolested part of California car culture, I hope someone understands what this is and keeps it’s the way it is." Henrik advertised it for sale for US $18,500 with a California title, and he sold it in September of 2020.
