Dave Shipman
Dave Shipman of Downey, California. Dave grew up in Downey and lived there from 1950 to 1974. "I used to take motorcycle parts painted by Ron Timmons to Larry Watson, Crazy Kelly, and Dennis Ricklifs for pinstriping," Dave told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama in 2020. Dave's uncles, and everyone he grew up with, were custom or hot rod junkies, and Dave and his twin's first car was a 1940 Ford Convertible. "In 1966 my twin brother and I were 16 and owned a 1940 Ford convertable . We took it to Gene's for duel exaust, with Cherry Bombs. We wanted the exaust to exit at the out side edge of the running boards and just ahead of the rear tires . Keith thought that was bitchen. He treated us like we were special every we came in after that. For some reason he remembered me , as every time I showed up with a project he would come out and greet me.In 1970 his employee bent-up a set of exaust for my 1956 KH Harley. Gene had them chrome plated and when I returned for for them ,he gave them to me free of charge. He wasn't happy with them .In 1979 I brought my Chevy Duelly to his shop to remove the headers and install stock manifolds, so I could install the A/C compressor. He gave me the used manifolds and hooked up the pipes for Free ! "[1]
