Bubble Tops In 1960 Darry Starbird introduced the bubble top to the custom car scene. The trend spread like wildfire, and it didn't take a long time before every known and unknown customizer started building their versions of the futuristic rides. Gary Ruddell's 1960 Ford Starliner Gary Ruddell's 1958 Chevrolet Corvette was great for picking up girls, but taking them to a drive-in or parking on a hill overlooking the city didn't work, so he sold it and bought a nearly new 1960 Ford Starliner that he gave a mild and tasteful custom job. 09.30.2019 - The Barris Kustom City Photo Arcive is Live Barris Kustom City is an online photo archive consisting of a collection of photographs by George Barris. Launched in September of 2019 the archive contains thousands of photos of the world’s most amazing custom cars, hot rods, race cars and pin-up's from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. 05.01.2019 - Bill Carter Has Passed Away We are sorry to inform that legendary custom painter Bill Carter passed away yesterday. Bill was born in Hollywood, California. He grew up during the birth of custom paint and loved the smell of paint and lacquer. Larry Watson took him in under his wings and taught him a few more tricks before he went on to open up his own shop. 03.05.2019 - The Restored Golden Sahara Unveiled at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show In March of 2019 Goodyear and Klairmont Kollections unveiled the restored Golden Sahara II at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show. The restored version of the iconic custom featured translucent Goodyear tires.

This custom painted 1934 Ford survivor was just dragged out of storage in Whitehouse, New Jersey. We're helping the current caretakers trace the history of the car. Maybe you can help us? Update: Max Magness' 1932 Ford Cabriolet The original builder of Pascal Bandelier's 1932 Ford survivor has finally been traced. Thanks to Les Gray we now know that the car was built by Max Magness, a hot rodder from Grandfalls, a small dry town in Ward County, Texas, in the late 1950s. Looking for Info: Art Lehner's 1932 Ford 3-Window Coupe - The Blue Indigo In 1986 Terry Stoker of Ontario, California bought a Kandy Tangerine 1932 Ford 3-Window Coupe from a fellow in Chino. While stripping the old hot rod for paint, old blue Metalflake paint was discovered, giving away clues about the car's rich history.

The Bill Boren Collection Bill Boren was an active member of the Culver City Screwdrivers in the 1940s and the 1950s. He and Jerry Keldrauk were a regular sight at the dry lakes with their track nosed 1932 Ford Sedan. Unfortunately Bill passed away in September of 2014, but his memory lives on on Kustomrama as his daughter Karen has scanned and shared his old albums with us. The Howard Miereanu Collection Howard R. Miereanu is a well known graphic designer. With degrees in industrial design & graphics from the Art Center College of Design, Howard’s experience is wide-ranging; from an exterior automotive designer at General Motors (1959-1963), back to Los Angeles he joined a local furniture manufacturer as head designer and created a line of office furniture, moved on to be Senior Partner at Advertising & Sons (a boutique advertising agency in Beverly Hills), and finally to owner and founder of HRM Graphic Design (a Woodland-Hills-based graphic design studio specializing in packaging, corporate ID). The James Handy Collection We are very happy to announce that a fraction of James "Jim" Handy's Photo Collection has found its way to Kustomrama. Jim has been shooting car shows, cars, and dragsters since 1960, and his photos have been in print in several magazines such as Rod & Custom, Rod Action and Custom Rodder.

For Sale: Dave Jenkins' 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air Historic one-owner Alexander Brothers custom. September 19th, 2019 the Dave Jenkins Chevrolet will hit the auctions block. For Sale: Bob Huffman's 1965 Chevrolet Impala 1965 Chevrolet Impala owned and restyled by Bob Huffman of Norwalk, California. Bob bought the Impala brand new from Paramount Chevrolet in Downey, California in September of 1964. He paid $3100.00 for the car, took it home and started restyling it almost immediately. For Sale: Joe Wilhelm's Wild Dream Wild Dream is a show rod designed and built by Joe Wilhelm at Wilhelm's Custom Shop for John Hernandez. Built over a three year period, the wild rod featured a futuristic hand-formed aluminum body that was covered with 20 coats of purple metalflake paint.

Kustom Kills & Hot Rod Thrills 2019 Kustom Kills & Hot Rod Thrills is a pre-1965 hot rod and custom car show held by Rumblers of New York City. The 2019 Kustom Kills & Hot Rod Thrills was held Saturday, September 21st, 2019 under the BQE at Lorimer Street in New York City. Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2019 The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is known as the most prestigious car show in the world, and this year's line up included a Historic Hot Rod Cover Cars Class, consisting of a handful of historic hot rods that made history being featured on the covers of well known hot rod and custom car magazines. Grand National Roadster Show 2019 The 70th annual Grand National Roadster Show was held January 25 - 27, 2019 at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. Over 500 show vehicles competed for awards inside the Fairplex buildings. Another 400-800 vehicles joined the event Saturday & Sunday for the Grand Daddy Drive-In.

Lawrence Garrison's 1940 Mercury Convertible In 2011 Birger Meland of Lier, Norway bought Lawrence Garrison’s channeled 1940 Mercury from Pat Orosco in California. For a long time, the history of this old custom has been full of holes and rumors. In June Birger told us that he wanted to restore the car back to how it was originally built. We applauded the initiative and agreed to help him research the history of the car. Gil Ayala's 1955 Ford Thunderbird - The Wild Bird Gil Ayala's personal custom, a 1955 Ford Thunderbird, known as the Wild Bird, has been sold to Scandinavia. Gil's Thunderbird is one of the few known surviving Ayala Customs, and it is a great addition to the Scandinavian custom scene. The restoration. We followed the restoration of the car, and it's trip halfway across the world on Kustomrama. The Kustomrama Dream truck The Kustomrama Dream Truck is a tribute to the custom cars of the late 1950s. Being an admirer of Jerry DeVito's wildly restyled 1957 Ford Fairlane, that we all know as the Maze, Sondre Kvipt decided that he wanted to recreate this car as a Ranchero. The build was started in Oslo, Norway in January of 2014, lead by Sondre's brother Olav.

Featured Video: The 1957 Norwalk Motorcade A movie by Bob Stephenson from the 4th annual Norwalk Motorcade, an outdoor car show sponsored by the Norwalk Coachmen car club. Keith Christensen was the first President of the club and a founding member. Featured Video: Warren Dorrill's Shark - 8MM Home Video 1949 Ford Club Coupe owned and restyled by Warren Dorrill of Gallup, New Mexico. Warren was a well-known bodyman and painter, and his 1949 Ford custom was known as "The Shark." Filmed back in the 1950s, this 8mm video comes from the collection of Warren's family.
