"Jerry had just finished the scalloping on the car," Ray told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama in 2017. "You can't notice it here, but the fad in those days was to put a name on the rear quarter panel. My cousin had him put "Sherri's Carriage," named after his daughter." Photo courtesy of Ray De Pucci.

First Car

In 1953, on the day Jerry turned 16, he got a driver's license, paid $85 for a Model-A Ford and immediately ripped off its fenders.[1]

Paint Shop

Jerry enrolled at an commercial art school, but he quit because "fooling around with cars" gave him more pleasure. In 1959 he told a journalist from The San Francisco Examiner that "from art school I learned the feel of design and the meaning of lines."[1]

Jerry ran a paint shop on Golden Gate Avenue. Ray De Pucci first met Jerry at his paint shop in 1956. In 2017 Ray told Kustomrama that Jerry was famous for his scalloping and pinstriping jobs; "He did beautiful work."[2]
