Ed Roth's 1940 Chevrolet

1940 Chevrolet owned by Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. Ed bought the Chevrolet from Dick Cook while he was building his first fiberglass show rod, The Outlaw. He needed a tow rig and a trailer, and the Chevrolet was perfect as Dick had put an Oldsmobile Tri-power engine into the car. According to Ed the car "hauled bananas", and it was a perfect tow car. It was even big enough for Ed to sleep in. The nifty part of the '40 was the gear shift, as Dick had made the emergency brake handle into a gear selector. When people offered to drive it and they figured out how to start it, they couldn't figure out how to mage the thing go. The car looked pretty stock except for Ed's name on the door in small letters. Ed owned it up until 1969 at last, and he loved to unhitch the trailer at shows and go street racing with his sleeper. The trailer was a "keep it simple" model built by Ron Aguirre's dad Louie Aguirre. It had two tires, one axle and was an open air model.[1]
