Duke Hallock of Fullerton, California ran a speed shop with his brother Jud Hallock. In 1930 Duke was driving his 1928 Ford Model A Roadster to Fullerton High School, as he began to strip it down he may have been one of the first hot rod builders ever. Duke removed the fenders, headlights, and windshield in order to make his roadster go faster when he was running it at the desert at El Mirage. It didn't take long time before Hallock also started to tune-up the stock four-banger either. Impressed by the windshield on the new Auburn Speedster, Duke created a mould for a Auburn look-alike windshield in his high school shop foundry.[2] Duke Hallock made several Hallock Windshields for 1928 - 1929 Ford Model A Roadsters, but only one windshield was as far as we know made for a 1932 Ford. This windshield is still around, and mounted on Jackie Howerton's 1932 Ford Roadster.[3] Duke was also an original member of the Fullerton Knight Riders Car Club that was formed in 1934.[4]


Duke became head of Research and Development at Garret Airsearch, a company known for their turbo systems.[2]


He was also a crewmember for the Bob Giovanine and Chuck Spurgin's 1925 Chevrolet.[1]
